Wendy's

The other day Katie and I decided to do something crazy and leave the building for dinner. Knowing that we didn't have much time to eat we chose Wendy's, seeing as it's close and the food is generally better than most other fast food.

So we walked into Wendy's and there was no line, of course this also meant that the person working the counter had wandered off to do some other 'work' or something. So we waited ... and waited ... and eventually the drive-thru guy shouted "someone's at the coutner." Which I thought meant someone would come right out and serve us. So we waited some more and then the girl making the burgers shouted "there's a customer at the counter." But still we waited some more.

Now I started to think, "this is getting ridiculous." So I pulled out my iPhone, loaded up google maps, and searched 'Wendys 14226' to which I got the response "did you mean Wendy's 14226?" So I finally found the phone number for Wendy's (which as anyone who has used an iPhone knows is a relatively lengthy experience) and called the number for the store. I could hear the phone ringing behind the counter as it rang on my end, finally someone picked up (after about 10 rings) and I just stated "Hi, I've been standing at your counter for about 10 mins and I was just wondering if you have anyone working here today" and I hung up. Finally 30 secs later the manager came out, looking like he just woke up, and took our order.

We did get the food for free, but I also managed to embarrass Katie pretty bad.

It's been a while

So it's been a while since I posted anything. It's not because I don't like posting, it just that I forget all the funny things that happen to me by the time I get to post.

Also it doesn't help that Brett's at grad school in Ithaca, so I don't have all the much asinine stuff happening.

But Katie has mentioned that I should talk about her more in my blog, so hopefully she'll fill the job of Brett in making asininity happen.

Holy Coupons Batman!

A couple of weeks ago I was at Target buying supplies for my new house. As I surveyed the available check out lines I saw one where the customer was handing the cashier some coupons, I figured that this should be the quickest line, as all of the customers purchases were already in her carts (that's right carts, she had 2 carts full of products).

Boy was I wrong about this line being fast. I found out quickly that the woman had a large envelope full of coupons, in fact so many coupons that she was handing the cashier coupons (one a time mind you) for over 7 mins. I know this time frame for sure because I sent a text message just as I arrived at the check stand, and received a response while the customer was still dealing with coupons 7 mins later.

Of course after the woman left I had to ask the cashier what just happened there (I thought I may have just fallen to sleep momentarily and dreamed the whole thing, it seemed that asinine). But I learned that I had not fallen to sleep and that the woman's total before coupons was over $200 and after coupons she ended up paying just $42.

Maybe I was stuck in line behind this woman.

Flag Day Parade Part II

As I was walking down my street with a 20' extension ladder (that's a whole other story) I realized that if I had just read this sign everything would have been explained.

Flag Day Parade

I spent this morning waiting my new house for the DirecTV installer to show up (I had an appointment for 8am to 12pm, which obviously means that he should show up at 1:15pm, which he did). As I was waiting (and watching all the shows on my Time Warner DVR that I have to return tomorrow) there were suddenly sirens and flashing lights outside my window.

Now I was expecting a car accident or a house fire, or an ambulance, but what I saw out my window was more surprising than any of those. There was a parade going down my street. It seems that the students of Windermere Elementary were having some kind of parade down me street in the middle of the day. There was an Amherst Police car, followed by a firetruck, followed by quite a line of students, and then another firetruck. All the students had American Flags and many were chanting U-S-A U-S-A. So, of course, I grabbed my trusty iPhone and took snapped some quick photos (below, click for a bigger view).

Now this all made me feel really out of touch, since I didn't even know that it was a patriotic holiday today .... but it turns out that it's not. The only thing I can figure is that they were having a Flag Day Parade, it was just 2 days late.
